ACCOUNTABILITY SCHMILITY
Feb 2019
Ugh! One day I think, “I need an accountability partner! I need someone to help me stay on track!” And then the next day I think, “Get off my back person-I-just-partnered-with-to-keep-me-on-track!”
I made an appointment to see a Naturopath to get some pointers to manage my diabetes and she had some great suggestions. One thing she asked me to do is test my blood sugars an hour after each meal/snack. I’ve been avoiding doing it like it was someone making me eat Brussels Sprouts! But I promised my ND I’d do it and in the spirit of “let your yes mean yes” BLAH BLAH BLAH, I’ve done it the past few days and I am NOT liking the results!
On one (more adult) hand, I can see the benefit of knowing what isn’t working and the benefit of trying something else. But . . . on the other (I am child, hear me whine) hand, I’m SO sick of this - I’ve already given up EVERYTHING (no, she’s not dramatic at all) and I’m eating boring foods and not drinking alcohol, avoiding sugar - now these stupid Costco shakes are bad too? (whine, whine, whine)
Here comes the Coach in me to the rescue: This is GREAT information! I wish EVERYONE took their blood sugars an hour after they ate. Imagine the power of knowing what works with your body and what doesn’t. Imagine how much we’d all lose weight by seeing the effects of food on our systems instead of being able to lie to ourselves. All my clients will be doing this in the future!
So I sit here feeling all the feels and deciding that this is indeed good information. I will continue to play with new foods, new AM meals, new herbal combinations and I WILL get the upper hand of this blood sugar stuff. My numbers have already come down from the 400’s to the 130’s most days, so I’m on the right track. I can get them under 110 if I keep plugging at this! I am WENDY - hear me whine slightly less.
*UPDATE JUNE 2019:
Just went to get an updated A1c (test for diabetes), 5 month check up. I have changed my diet somewhat but mainly I have been extremely faithful in taking my herbs & Solle products.
Note from my MD: "We are going to have a little celebration during your appointment! Your A1c decreased from 12.8% 5 months ago to 6.4%!!!! This is AMAZING! I'm sure you've made some great lifestyle changes and I'm excited to discuss this with you and celebrate! Your cholesterol has also improved significantly from 5 months ago. Total cholesterol went from 201 to 180, LDL from 110 to 104 and HDL increased from 37 to 44 which is good news (it's the 'good cholesterol')."
When I went in person to see her, she said if I keep my A1c in this range, she’ll reverse the diagnosis & I’ll officially be cleared as NOT having diabetes! WOOP!! WOOP!!
